SOLA Sunlens Develops Sailing Lens Exclusively for Zerorh+
New lens to be worn by Swiss team at this years Americas Cup!
San Diego, CA (May 25, 2002) - SOLA Sunlens, leading manufacturer of premium plastic sunglass lenses, has developed See Sea, a remarkable new sailing lens for Zerorh+. Zerohrh+ will premier the See Sea lens in its reputable "NEMO" sunglasses, which will be worn exclusively by the Ailinghi team at the 2002 Americas Cup in Auckland. This innovative lens is made from a unique polyamide material that is extremely flexible and lightweight, while providing superior impact strength and outstanding chemical resistance. Plus, See Sea lenses, along with a special frame material allow the sunglasses to float.
The sailing environments of the sun, sea and lake are all characterized by the predominance of blue tones and reflections. The Ailinghi team members have tested these tones, in association with specific spectral lens color curves and as a result, the sailor's visual capacities were actually increased. In fact, the See Sea lens increases visual efficiency, guaranteeing perfect color and object perception, increasing contrast capacity and visual depth while insuring a sharp perception of the horizon, waves and changes in the wind. It also protects the eyes from UV glare when observing the sail against the sky and from reflections on the water when maneuvering the boat. And finally, its hydrophobic treatment allows droplets of water to virtually slide from the lens' surface.
The specialized lens surface is also bi-toric with two different bases, a horizontal base curve of 10 and a vertical base of 4.5. This lens, which exceeds the general standards (optical class 1 EN-1836), innovates the style of sunglasses while exalting the comfortable frames.
In addition, this specialty sailing lens out performs any normal lens and offers 100% UV protection. See Sea lenses feature our proprietary hard coating for unsurpassed resistance and are 15% lighter than standard polycarbonate lenses. Combined with our proprietary hard coating, See Sea lenses demonstrate excellent adhesion and compatibility with our standard and performance mirror treatments.
"At SOLA Sunlens, we pride ourselves on innovation and technology", states Al Gleek, SOLA Sunlens Director of Marketing and New Products. 'And by working closely with company's such as Zerorh+, it allows us the opportunity to develop specialty performance lenses that are not only functionable but also fashionable. In this instance we have created a truly unique and technologically advanced lens."
